we are here
Like a toddler,
so caught up with running home from school he doesn’t realize
He has grown from crawling to taking his first steps.
The kind that puts a quiet smile on his mother’s heart.
Like a sailor,
drenched by storms
already daydreaming of anchoring his ship in the harbor
where his kids will run to him with warm hugs.
He doesn’t think to pause
to jot down in his memory the wild, troubled sea adventures
his children would one day hang on his every word to hear.
Like a writer,
obsessed with signing his name at the end of his work
ignoring the quiet, personal notes in the messages he crafts, missing the lesson he’s meant to teach himself.
We’re so focused on getting there we never actually do
Because we never stop to notice
we’re here.
drenboy.
